AFTER DARK: AN EVENING WITH SHOOT OGAWA

The closest, most exclusive performance by the greatest sleight-of-hand artist alive.
For more than three decades, Shoot Ogawa has been regarded as one of the finest close-up magicians in the world. A FISM World Champion, eight-time Magic Castle Magician of the Year, and the performer whom Penn & Teller publicly described as “the best living sleight-of-hand artist alive,” Shoot has spent a lifetime achieving what most magicians consider impossible. While audiences at The Magical Mystery Show! already sit just feet from the action during our acclaimed nightly Victorian parlor performances, AFTER DARK goes somewhere few magic experiences on Earth dare to venture: inches away.

Presented only a few nights each month and limited to fewer than 21 guests, AFTER DARK is reserved exclusively for adults. Not because the show is risqué—it isn’t—but because this level of intimacy demands complete attention. This is Shoot Ogawa in his favorite environment: small, personal, unforgiving, and impossibly close. Your hands are on the table. Every guest becomes part of the experience. Every movement, every moment, every impossible mystery unfolds directly in front of you. If our nightly shows place you feet away from world-class magic, AFTER DARK places you inside it.

The room itself is designed for perfection. Just two rows of seating are available. Front Row guests sit directly at the performance table, while Second Row guests enjoy elevated captain’s barstool seating with unobstructed sightlines only inches farther away. There are no bad seats. There is no stage. There is nowhere for secrets to hide. In many respects, this is a more intimate experience than even the legendary private rooms of Hollywood’s Magic Castle or London’s Magic Circle. Few performers on Earth possess the technical mastery required to work under these conditions. Fewer still would willingly attempt it.

Join us at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Resort. There, hidden within King Kalākaua’s Royal Hawaiian Museum of Curiosities and Oddities, a secret Victorian world awaits. Step through the museum doors and back to 1881—the same era when King Kalākaua traveled the globe and witnessed the finest parlour entertainments of Victorian London. What follows is not merely a magic show. It is a rare encounter with mastery itself.

For two extraordinary hours—from 9:30 PM until 11:30 PM—you will witness skill so refined it borders on the supernatural, laughter so relentless it leaves guests wiping tears from their eyes, and moments so impossible they remain with you for years afterward. If you collect extraordinary experiences, this belongs near the top of your list. It exists nowhere else in the world. Only in Waikīkī. Only a few nights each month. Only after dark.

Second Row: $150 per guest
Front Row: $200 per guest

Frequently Asked Questions

The Magical Mystery Show is family-friendly and perfect for date night, featuring comedy and magic from performers you may have seen on Penn & Teller: Fool UsAmerica’s Got Talent, international television, and global award stages.

The show presents some of the world’s best magical entertainers in an elegant, intimate setting, designed to truly stun and entertain. You are only a few feet away as impossible moments and miracles happen right before your eyes.

The experience takes place in our unique Hawaiian-Victorian, antique-filled theatre. Your journey begins in the Museum of Curiosities and Oddities, setting the tone for a step back in time. Inspired by history, the show references 1881, when Hawaii’s last king, King David Kalākaua, witnessed magic in a London home. We share the history, lore, and fun throughout this one-of-a-kind experience.

Each show is limited to fewer than 60 guests to preserve the intimacy, allowing for close-up magic, laughter, and the charm of a bygone era. Guests actively participate in the performance and experience astonishing feats of prestidigitation up close.

Guests leave with the lines between fantasy and reality completely blurred.

It’s the entire experience, not just a magic show or a traditional theater performance. The Magical Mystery Show combines world-class magic, comedy, immersive storytelling, a walk-through museum, and escape-room–style mystery elements, all inside a beautifully intimate theater.
Guests don’t simply sit and watch — they step into a world. From the Museum of Curiosities and Oddities to the live performance itself, the experience is designed to feel immersive, personal, and unforgettable, with magic happening just a few feet away.
The show runs approximately 90–100 minutes, including a short meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with the performers at the end.
No, there is no intermission. The show is designed to flow continuously from start to finish so guests stay fully immersed in the experience.
While the show’s core structure remains the same, the audience interaction ensures that no two performances are identical. The unique reactions, volunteers, and improvised moments are what make each night’s experience one-of-a-kind.
The show features Shoot Ogawa, a world-renowned magician and former Magic Castle Close-Up Magician of the Year, along with other highly skilled professional magicians depending on the night. Special duo performances called the Sleight and Delight Tour are also scheduled on select days.
Shoot Ogawa’s solo show runs six days a week, from Wednesday to Monday. On Tuesdays, the show is replaced by a special duo performance called Sleight and Delight Tour, which features two magicians.
The show has a clear structure and planned routines, but many moments are improvised. Audience interaction plays a big role, so the performers adapt their timing, humor, and presentation based on who is in the room.
It is very visual, making it easy to enjoy even without following every word. At the same time, there is light storytelling and emotional buildup that adds depth without being complicated or hard to follow.
Yes. The show is highly visual and expressive, making it easy to enjoy regardless of language. Even guests with limited English can fully experience the magic, audience reactions, and overall atmosphere of the performance.
For Japanese-speaking guests, we have three staff members who speak Japanese, reflecting the high demand from visitors in Hawaiʻi and ensuring a comfortable and welcoming experience.
